GW here for another episode of Make It Happen Monday, a motivational minute to help you attack and win the week.

Well, here at Polyenterprises it’s all about culture. Any business or organization, team or family, culture is there and its either set the way you want it which is usually good if you’re driving it or it sets itself which is usually bad. So today’s Make It Happen Monday is about culture.

(Special Guest Drew Miller)

A key part of our culture here at Poly Enterprises is the Quality of our work and being proud of what we do. One way that we ensure the highest level of quality is through our First Article process. Before a mat is put into production we put a sample “first article” and mail it to the customer. The customer then makes sure that the mat is exactly how they want it, the same size, color, image… exactly how they want. They sign it and ship it back to us, then during production, we make sure that every mat that we run is exactly like the one they sent us. This is just another way we can ensure that every mat we run is the highest level of quality, and we can truly be proud of everything that leaves our building.

And remember, You Can’t Cheat the Grind.

We’ve been talking a lot about the five Cornerstones that make up our Homeplate Culture: Performance, Stewardship, Quality, Safety, and People. These five Cornerstones drive all actions and decisions we make here at Poly but the thing I like the most about our Homeplate Culture is the fact that you can use it at home in your personal life as well as here at work. The more teammates we get to buy into that fact, the more we see and the more stories we hear from them about them scoring which equals winning at home in their personal lives. Things like buying their first house, paying off a car, kids getting into good schools, any personal goals that they have, they score and they win. That’s why we make sure that every action and decision we make here at Poly fits one of those five Cornerstones because we know if we’re in one of the Cornerstones, we score which equals a win, Homeplate Culture and remember, no matter what the circumstance, no matter what the situation… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

Safety is important to me as it is to everyone here at Polyenterprises. Today we celebrate 432 days without a loss time accident. That’s due to an active Safety Committee and to the safety culture that is instilled in us every day. So be safe and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

My name is Colt, I’m here today talking a little bit about our culture and how special it is here at Polyenterprises. Our big Home Plate that we worry about and focus on is “Scoring equals Winning.” Now, we have our cornerstones around that and the biggest one to me is People. Those of you who don’t know, I was a veteran… I am a veteran and I had a commander (who) every single Friday before we left for the weekend would say the same thing every single weekend and it stuck with me to this day. He would say, he would rather us “try to succeed and fail rather than try to fail and succeed” and that’s something our people do very well here (try to succeed). Every single person shows up every single day trying to succeed. Now they may fall short at times but no one is trying to fail and that’s a big thing for us and it keeps us successful. And for us, success equals winning, scoring equals winning so thanks everybody, everybody have a good day and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

One of the important tenants of our Home Plate Culture is Quality and quality, to me, is so very important. We make products that we are proud of, that we think are just the best, treating every aspect of what we do as our own and one really cool thing about what we do here is that we control every aspect. We control, we help with the design process, we have a tooling center back here where we make the molds. We compound the materials so we can really keep our quality high. You know, today clients have a myriad of choices out there. They can use their marketing in this realm or that realm so we have to make sure that we’re at the top of our game.

I’m the kind of person that when I go to a restaurant, if people are ignoring me and not coming to serve me in time or if the food is just subpar, I don’t really say anything, I just don’t ever go back and so, we want people to receive our product and just be dazzled and blown away by the quality of the product. And so quality, starting with the quality of our people extending to the quality of the product is a key tenant of our culture here at Poly and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

What excites me about our culture here at Polyenterprises is our commitment to Stewardship. For us, that means two things. Internally that means our commitment to being resource-efficient when it comes to inside our facility. Outside our facility, it means volunteering and helping others. We do several events and different activities throughout the year that allows us to do that but one of my favorites is our partnership with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. One that we do the is the day before Thanksgiving we prepare and then give out several hundred different kits of food to underprivileged families or people that really need especially during the Holiday season. It’s an awesome opportunity for us to work together as a team but also to serve others.

Culture here is very important and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

So part of our culture here at Polyenterprises and one thing we like to focus on is “Grow or Die.” Grow or Die is a very important part to pay attention to and to focus on because either you grow or you die. I’m a person who really likes quotes. The reason I like quotes so much is because most really influential or great quotes come from a perspective of someone’s life of experience. Something important happened that they learn or they gain from. A quote I learned really early in life and has stuck with me is, “Those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat (it)” and that’s a big thing to focus on, to pay attention to that goes right along with Grow or Die.

A few examples that may come to mind or, at least, come to mind to me is (when you think about it) Blockbuster. Blockbuster was a huge company that’s no longer around. For the older generation, you may have heard of Kodak or Polaroid. These are all very successful companies that no longer exist because they died. A huge one would be Compaq, the number one computer seller in the entire world and at one point made (like) six billion dollars no longer exists because they died, they didn’t grow. To spin-off that, those who took the chance and actually grew and took the initiative, a big company that I really enjoy is Samsung. For those who don’t know, when you think of Samsung, you think of computers, phones, screens, TV monitors. Samsung actually began in 1938. The owner of Samsung opened a grocery store with 38 dollars. They started off selling rice and soybeans and then they innovated. They went from selling rice and soybeans to making their own sugar refinery and then they made their own wood mill. It wasn’t until 1969 before they even got to the technology department when they made their first TV. Now in 2019, Samsung is one of the biggest and most expensive companies in the entire world and most successful. And when we think of Samsung we only think (again) like I said of technology. What most people don’t know is that they are actually the third largest Insurance company in the world. They own several theme parks, several hotels. They choose to Grow instead of Die. Here at Polyenterprises thats the culture we accept and we embrace and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

GW here for another episode of Make It Happen Monday, a motivational minute to help you attack and win the week.

Well, I wanted to say something today about a positive attitude. People that know me, I get up at 4 o’clock in the morning. I go downstairs in my home office, I read, I get ready for the day and then I go to the gym and get a workout in and then get to the office about 8 or 8:30. And so by 8:30 / 9 o’clock I’ve had the best part of my day (usually) over with. And, I am, by no means a good example of a success or accomplishing anything in particular but it gives me a great chance of how I try to win the day, let alone, win the week. It just sets me up for a great day and puts me into a positive attitude mode.

Well, this morning as I was coming out of the gym a friend of mine was walking in. And, he walked in and we said hello and he said “How’s it going?” and I said, “Super” and he just stopped and he looked at me and said, “Well, I hope the rest of your day doesn’t go downhill.” and I said “Oh yeah” and I laughed and left and got in the truck.  And, I got to thinking on the way home, here’s a guy who just got out of bed because you could tell his hair was all messed up at it’s probably 7 / 7:30 and he’s already worried about the day going downhill and I’ve been up for three and a half hours and my days just getting started but, maan am I off to a great start.

So that positive attitude can really make a difference in your day and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

Well, if you’ve hung around me at all or people around Poly, you know how important goals are and goal setting is. And I met with our Leadership Team last month and we talked about (you know) the aspects of goal setting, being quantifiable, writing them down, being focused toward it and we talked about all the ins and outs and I said to them… they know how important it is to me that they set goals because goals are so much a part of everything we do here, everything I do in my personal life but I don’t want to know if they set goals and I told them the reason that I didn’t was because it’s not something that they are going to do because I ask them to do it. If you set goals and they’re important to you it’s because you are trying to accomplish something and you have a passion and a conviction to accomplish that feat.

But I did end it with this… I said, “Why would I make future plans with people that don’t have plans for the future.” Let that sink in and remember… You Can’t Cheat The Grind.

Well, I’m lucky enough to be hunting at Beaver Creek Plantation in South Georgia over some world-class dogs and one thing that makes a good bird dog priceless is discipline. Keeping in mind that discipline applies to our lives, especially on our goal setting and goal achievement, as important as anything else. So take a lesson from Fancy here… YOU Can’t Cheat The Grind.
