As one of
the leading names in electronic entertainment, Nintendo has
always exemplified clean, contemporary design in their gaming
systems and the art we received for this project is no exception.
They smartly wanted something that could be used both as a counter
and floor mat to promote their multiplatform Nintendo DS, Nintendo
GameCube and GameBoy Advance SP. The white detail on a crisp,
blue background is perfectly rendered in polyvinyl. We chose
to represent different design elements at varying heights to
show the fine details as cleanly as possible. Most of the fonts
are raised approximately .100 inches above the backing, but
the Game Boy Advance letters are shown by the blue backing itself
with the white around the letters raised. This technique is
called “show through” and in some designs it is
the cleanest way to show letters and creates a striking design
element. Each Nintendo gaming device featured is shown at full
height, the blue and white areas raised approximately .100 above
the backing. Adding the 1/8” ribs and bevel border adds
both function and texture to the overall look of the mat.
